MOORHEAD, MINN. (Valley News Live): A local professional fisherman and Moorhead gym are hosting a free fishing seminar for children on May 6th. The hour and half seminar will be presented by professional fisherman Spencer Duetz and focus on water safety, fish identification, aquatic invasive species and knot tying.

“We will have live minnows, practice netting fish, and an underwater camera for them (children) to look at,” said fisherman Spencer Duetz.

Duetz is from Moorhead, Minnesota and has been competing in the Masters Walleye Circuit. He’s finished in the top 10 five times. He hosts about six to 10 clinics a year.

“My goal is to expose potential new anglers of all ages, race and genders to the sport of fishing and educate them on how to catch fish and protect our resources,” said fisherman Spencer Duetz. “We want to grow the sport of fishing through education and outreach. These events are focused around kids however there are many adults that are new to angling as well so they can learn a lot from these clinics.”

Each child that attends will receive a free fishing rod courtesy of National Professional Anglers Association. The event starts at noon and goes until 1:30 p.m. at EHP CrossFit in Moorhead.

There is a limited number of seats and children must be registered to attend. To register, call 218-512-0515 or email Ehpcrossfit@gmail.com.
