Ranger/Yamaha Pro Spencer Deutz Holds Fishing Clinic for Youth
Published May 8th, 2018
On Saturday May 5th, Spencer Deutz and Elevate Human Potential Cross Fit of Moorhead, MN joined forces to hold their second annual National Professional Anglers Association (NPAA) Future Angler Foundation (FAF) youth and family fishing clinic. The weather was calling for light rain towards the end of the clinic but that wasn’t going to stop the 15 future anglers from learning about the sport of fishing.
As the kids arrived for the 10am start time, they were given a NPAA FAF Future Pro t-shirt for them to wear during the clinic. At 10:10am, Spencer started his interactive seminar which covered boat safety, aquatic nuisance species (ANS) and fish identification. During this seminar, Spencer also introduce a giveaway called Project Future Angler.
Project Future Angler is sponsored by Yamaha Outboards and with this, one future angler will win a trip to the 2019 NPAA Annual Conference held January 4th-5th in Minneapolis, MN. The future angler will have the opportunity to meet the best professional walleye anglers in the country as well as being presented with their own customized professional fishing jersey. Also included will be the NPAA Future Angler membership, conference fees, two nights lodging and a $100 gas stipend. To enter the giveaway, the future angler must write an essay on what they learned during the clinic and how they can help stop the spread of ANS. They must send that essay to Spencer and the winner will be chosen early November.
Following the seminar, the kids and their parents made their way outside and separated into three groups. The future anglers rotated through different stations which included a tour of Spencer’s Yamaha wrapped 2018 Ranger 620FS fishing boat, catching backyard bass, identifying different types of bait and viewing minnows on an underwater camera.
Each future angler in attendance received a rod/reel combination, an ANS water bottle, a Future Fro t-shirt and a SunButter backpack with SunButter samples.
Other volunteers for the event include Ron Deutz, Carley Deutz, Dom Noonan and Brad Bender.
In all, 15 future anglers and 13 adults attended the clinic.
