Saturday June 23rd marked the final day weigh-in for the 42nd annual Devils Lake Chamber of Commerce fishing tournament. The event consisted of 108 two-man teams with the hopes of winning the top prize of $6,500. Unlike last year, the anglers did not have to worry about weather, as the event was marked by light winds and sunny skies.
At 3pm, hundreds of fans gathered in front of the stage at Grahams Island State Park for the team results. Mixed throughout the crowd, 36 future anglers anxiously awaited the youth and family-fishing clinic.
Yamaha/Ranger Pro Spencer Deutz gathered the kids to the South side of the stage. The future anglers learned about aquatic nuisance species (ANS), fish identification, on the water safety, casting techniques and much more. Following the educational clinic, each future angler in attendance receive a rod/reel combination, future angler t-shirt and an ANS water bottle courtesy of the National Professional Anglers Association Future Angler Foundation. They also received a backpack filled with goodies from SunButter Sunflower Butter.
In all, 36 future anglers and 15 adults attended the clinic.
